Before starting the second assignment of the course I read (and studied the photos) in the book Robert Mapplethorpe by Richard Marshall, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, 1988.
I was particularly interested in the photographs of flowers. I found them very expressive, beautifully lit and wonderful texture. Those shot in colour are very subtle. Interestingly many were shot in an almost square format.
A number of the images are on the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation website.
